How to Change the Wax

Okay, When I got my first Scentsy Warmer, I expected the wax to dissipate--you know, the way wicked candles work.  When I did not observe the wax level going down, I got up the nerve to ask my neighbor whose party I had ordered from.  She told me that when it no longer smells, you can clean it out with a paper towel.  Now that I have moved beyond Scentsy novice, I change my scents daily.  I want to save the scents that are still good though.  (each use is about 60-80 hours)  So I made some VERY amateur videos to help out.

Here is the video about cleaning your wax out.  (When you do not want to attempt to save the wax.)
Video 1   FYI:  I laugh because it shows me changing the October Scent of the Month, Autumn Stroll.  When I smelled it in the box, I confess, I did not like it.  My smart husband suggested I just try warming it.  It took me a few weeks to actually listen, and when I did, I now love it.  It doesn't always work that way, but this one did.  The undertones are strong and it sticks in the room long after you have shut off your warmer.

Now, Here is Video 2 that shows how to remove wax and save for another use.  I didn't mention it in the video but you can just stick the hardened wax in a baggie and label it as if you are anything like me, you will forget, and even if it smells good, I like to know what I am warming.  I wouldn't combine other scents in the bag, but if I warmed the same scent throughout the house, I will stick the multiple "pallets" in one bag.

Julia Roberts has nothing to worry about, these videos will win no acclaim but hopefully they will be useful.:-)

Scentsy Bricks vs. Scentsy Bars

Should I buy a Scentsy brick or a bar?  What is the difference between the brick and the bar?  I tried to illustrate size differences with this picture but lets also talk about weight and price so you can know it all before you decide.  The big purple Welcome Home item above is the Scentsy Brick.  Yes, it is massive.  It is 15 oz Net Weight.  The smaller (bars) are a net weight of 2.6 oz each.  Doing the math here, 15 oz divided by 2.6 means that there are 5.76 bars in every brick.  To buy 5 bars (which if you did, you would get 6 in a combine and save package-buy 5, get 1 free) it will cost $25.00 where a Scentsy Brick is $20.00 (except Scent of the Month Bricks which are 10% off).  Going on a weight then, the Scentsy Brick is a better deal.  However, here is my two cents.  The Brick is divided into 12 pieces, which I subdivide depending on my warmer.  (sometimes each piece is divided in 3, sometimes 2 depending on what warmer) When I use the bar which has 8 much smaller cubes, no subdividing is necessary.  I use one cube for my plug in warmer and 2 cubes for everything else.  So here is usually how I make my decision:  I only buy bricks when I know I LOVE the scent.  There are several that I love and tend to use more often.  For those, I often buy bricks.  I will not buy a brick unless I can smell it first.  (I have bought many sight unseen...or in this case, smell unsmelled).  I also buy Scentsy Bars when I want a variety.  I can get 6 bars at $25.00 (In Combine and Save) or 1 brick for $20.  It is fun to change scents for your mood, or certain time of year lend themselves to more change...Christmas being one of those times.  When purchasing gifts for someone, I always buy the bars.  I like to give variety, especially when someone is new to Scentsy, and especially when I am unsure of their smell preferences.  (and here I typically stick to smells that are very popular such as Welcome Home, Luna, My Dear Watson)  I love comments or questions, so please don't hesitate to do so if you have one!  I should add as an aside, my favorite Christmas smells are Cozy Fireside, Festival of Trees, and Snowberry in that order.  Cozy Fireside is wonderfully cinnamon, Festival of Trees smells like a real Christmas Tree, and Snowberry just smells of Christmas.  (as does Christmas Cottage which is similar, I just happen to like Snowberry better. Both are great though)    Happy Smelling!

One of my Favorite Warmers

When the new catalog came out in September, I knew I had to have this one.  It was me.  I think they really should have named it "Melanie", but they went with "Jane".  It is sweet, sophisticated, and very English.  I have a lot of black accent pieces in my home, specifically my kitchen so that is where it sits, on my shabby chic painted pie safe.  The window lights up when it is on just like in the picture above.

You can view the catalog on my website www.msevcik.scentsy.us
by hitting browse, or my favorite way...select BUY from the tabs and hit on left tabs as you search.  This warmer is a premium full size warmer.  They are all great.  Size wise, the mid-size are the smaller of the regular warmers, great for more limited space.  The plug in warmers, which look like night lights, are perfect for bathrooms or where outlets are up a bit higher.  The wax, even at its hottest, does not burn but nonetheless, I try not to tempt my little ones by having plug-in warmers too easily accessible.

Hi!  My Name is Melanie and this is me with my family.  Yeah, a lot of kids!  I am pretty ordinary, a mom and I love all the things most moms do, happy homes filled with beauty and tons of great memories.  I have a lot of great memories of my growing up years (and some hard ones when I was supergeek, but we are forgetting those!)  and I want the same for my children.

Recently, I made the decision to fill our lives with Scentsy.  Yep, I said I wouldn't do it but some habits are hard to break plus I am so addicted.  I love to warm!  I love to share great products with others.  It just seemed right.  So here I am.  The purpose of this blog is to bring you more information than I can on my Scentsy order site...but you can link right to it so don't worry!  Also, to have fun and to help you have the most amazing smelling house that is just perfect for you and your family.

The thing about Scentsy that I love is that no matter what hobby you are involved in or however you have decided to decorate your home, there is a warmer, or two, or three that are just perfect!  Also, like with food, smell preferences vary from person to person.  Scentsy has over 80 fragrances to choose from.  Now I can't have smelling pages on here (there is a thought for future techies) but I can ask you some questions to help you direct your selections.  I am available by email, twitter, and I even have a Facebook page...Scents of Joy.  You can email me too or comment on here.  I LOVE all the ways and I will answer back ASAP, I promise!  I love this!  Who ever thought I would be such a Smelly Melly?  Now some old nicknames do have value, you just have to wait 30 years to discover it!

Thanks for being here, I love that you came!
